Call of the Wild
I read the legendary novel Call of the Wild, by Jack London, and I really liked it. To help organize my feelings about the book, I will write a 5-paragraph essay about three phases in Buck, the main character/dog’s life.
The first phase in Buck’s life was when he lived at his original owner’s house. His ‘Master’ was a judge simply called Judge Miller. He lived a very relaxing life, and the only work he had to do was protect his yard from neighbor dogs. It was like this until the gardener sold him to two French men seeking fortune from the Alaskan Gold Rush, which leads into the next phase of his life.
As a spoiled dog, Buck did not know how to survive in the harsh arctic. This is why he learned from other dogs. He learned to make a sleeping hole by stumbling into another dog’s. But some things he had to learn from experience, like not to do bad things or he would get whipped. And not to attack Francois and Perrault, or he would get beaten with the club. After he killed spitz, he approached the last transformation into the final phase.
The final phase of Buck’s life, he was a natural leader. He kept everyone in order as lead dog, and led the team through harsh conditions. He never lost a fight, and was very strong. He could even pull a 1000-pound sled! After his favorite owner, John Thornton was killed, he became a dog of the wild. Thus concludes the story of Buck the sled dog.
I Thought that the novel Call of the wild was easily one of the best books I have ever read. I would Highly recommend it to anyone who likes great adventure classics.
